Before the crisis
Most families only learn which papers they need while they are standing in a hospital hallway — and by then it can be too late to get them signed. This kit helps you get ahead of that, one small step at a time.
Free. No card, no catch.
How to use it
You do not have to do this all at once
1. Read the guide
Two pages explain each document in plain language — what it does, and the one thing families get wrong about it.
2. Take stock
The tracker shows what is signed, what is missing, where the original lives and who has a copy.
3. Talk, gently
Conversation starters for opening the subject, and for the “I’m fine” you will probably get first.
4. Gather and store
The parent info sheet, medication list and the grab-and-go folder to take to the emergency room.
The most important thing to know Most of these documents can only be signed while your parent is able to understand what they are signing. If that ability is lost first, families may have to go to court for guardianship, which is slower, costlier and far more stressful. Earlier is always kinder.
Please note This kit is general education, not legal or medical advice. Rules, names and forms vary by state. An elder law attorney can make sure the documents are valid where your parent lives, and many offer a flat fee for a basic planning package.
